Daily Deal & One Deal at a Time are Proven Business Models
In August 2009, Backcountry.com’s Chief Marketing Office, Dustin Robertson, was
interviewed by Transworld Business, and asked "What percentage of your business is made up of ODAT sales?" Dustin responded "
ODAT is about 25 percent of our gross revenue."
In March 2009,
Outside magazine wrote that
“Having sold more than 10,000 avalanche beacons, Backcountry now employs 940 people, stocks more than 35,000 products, and is on track to rake in $300 million in sales this year, recession be damned.”
Oh, snap! Based on that information, it sounds like Backcountry.com may be generating about $75 million a year in revenue, from ODAT sales. That’s awesome, and a great testimonial to the One Deal at a Time business model.
Group Buying is a Proven Business Model
In January 2011,
The Wall Street Journal wrote that “Groupon, which turned down a $6 billion takeover offer from Google Inc. last year and said it would raise $950 million in funding, has been planning its public debut for later this year … Bankers have told Groupon the company could raise at least $1 billion in a public offering at a valuation of at least $15 billion ..."
In January 2011,
USA Today wrote that "Why the sudden spike in traffic? The answer's simple: Amazon. The e-commerce giant made a strategic investment of $175 million in LivingSocial last month to counteract a potential Google-Groupon combination. Last week, LivingSocial offered 50% off of a $20 voucher at Amazon.com, which resulted in more than 1 million Amazon vouchers sold. It was the biggest group-buying deal in history."
By the way, Groupon and Living Social DO NOT use Dealo. Groupon and Living Social DO NOT endorse Dealo. Groupon and Living Social ARE NOT affiliated with Dealo. Groupon and Living Social DO NOT have a relationship or partnership with Dealo.
We just love to brag about data like this, to exemplify the success of the Group Buying business model, in general. Way to go Groupon and Living Social! (Andrew Mason and Tim O'Shaughnessy, email us, we’d love for you guys to consider partnering with Dealo!)
